FINISHES & MATERIALS
Having a tough time deciding on the finish and material that’s right for your project? Here’s our quick-start guide to help you make an informed decision.
Materials
Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is both a material and a finish in one.- Does not need a protective coating
- Won't stain, corrode, or rust like mild steel
- Creates its own protective layer of oxides which block surface corrosion
- Can withstand heavy exposure in most outdoor locations
- 304 (standard corrosion resistance great for many applications)
- 316 (extremely corrosion resistant, great for marine settings and in salty environments)
We offer two grades:

Mild Steel
A mild steel bike corral created from recycled freestanding Staple racks at PSU being sandblasted before powder coating to remove protective oils and any corrosion before coating.- Mild steel is extremely stong and long lasting when protected from the elements
- One of the most recyclable and recycled metals
- Can be used as a base for a variety of finishes
Finishes
Powder Coating
Powder coating is a polyester-based finish used on mild steel. It is easy to maintain over a long period of time and highly resistant to wear and tear.- Protective barrier for raw steel
- Helps with environmental corrosion resistance on mild steel products
- Available in a wide variety of colors

Thermoplastic Coating
This finish is extremely durable for mild steel racks, and Plascoat’s special formulation (PPA-571) produces a strong, flexible coating with a beautiful glossy texture.- Tougher, more resistant to chips than powder coating
- Graffiti and sticker resistant
- Available in a variety of colors
- Recyclable
- Will not crack, chip, flake or fracture
- Glossy appearance
- Superior resistance to sun, salt & sea water
Hot Dip Galvanization
If you're looking for a tough, inexpensive finish and don't mind a slightly rough textured grey look, then galvanized is right for you. Hot dip galvanization is a great choice for areas that require a low-maintenance fixture.- Excellent durability and corrosion protection for mild steel racks
- Longer-lasting and more durable than zinc plating or powder coating
- Budget-friendly
- 100% Recyclable
- Low environmental impact (read more)
